Many zooplankters rely on diapausing stages to survive unsuitable conditions in time-varying habitats. In facultativesexualrotifers, reproductive effortallocatedtothe sexuallyproduced diapausingeggs isat the expenseofthe subitaneousparthenogenetic eggs, generatingatrade-offbetweencurrentand future population growth.Thetimingand the amountof sex (the sexual pattern) affect diapausing-egg production.
